This Checklist Can Help You Pack for Rehab
The thought of heading to rehab can be overwhelming. But taking this step and committing to Discovery Point Retreat is the best decision for you.
As you learn more about treatment, you will have to start considering what you’re going to pack and bring with you. Don’t stress over packing for rehab. This is a checklist created so you can quickly and easily know what to pack and what to leave behind.
While packing for rehab, if you have questions about any specific type of item, please contact the Discovery Point Retreat Recovery directly by phone at (888) 602-7793.
It can be difficult to know what you’ll want to wear while in rehab. That being said, it’s most important that you will be comfortable. The Texas heat is a real thing, so make sure to plan accordingly. It is recommended to pack at least one week’s worth of:
- Tank tops
- A jacket
- Workout clothes that are not tight or revealing
- A pair of sneakers
- Comfortable clothing to wear to bed
Remember that you should not bring any type of clothing that has any images, graphics, words or phrases that are related to drug or alcohol use to Discovery Point Retreat. There is also an unheated pool along with a basketball court during the warmer seasons. You may also want to roast marshmallows by our fire pit or take a walk on one of our nature trails so make sure you pack the proper footwear and clothing.
You likely won’t need many accessories in your treatment facility. The general rule of thumb is to keep accessories, especially expensive ones, to a minimum. Typically, watches and wedding rings are the only suggested accessories at Discovery Point Retreat.
You are allowed to bring your preferred toiletries with you to the treatment facility. Approved toiletries include:
- Face wash
- Lip balm
- Alcohol-free Mouthwash
- Basic types of makeup
- Feminine products
Please note that all toiletries, except for your toothbrush, must be brand new and unopened when brought into Discovery Point Retreat. Also, any toiletry item that has alcohol as an ingredient, is not allowed into the facility. Mouthwash commonly has alcohol in it so if you plan to bring mouthwash with you, double-check that it is alcohol-free.
You do not have to live without your prescription medication at the Discovery Point Retreat Recovery Treatment Facility. You can bring all your prescription medications but they must be in the original packaging. In addition, please write a list that details each medication and the necessary dosages, for our medical team. If you’re unsure of any medications, you can contact our specialists and they can advise you on whether or not you should bring it.
Sealed vitamins are permitted at the treatment facility. Not permitted into Discovery Point Retreat are:
- Narcotic medicines
- Over the counter medications
- Medicine that has alcohol as an ingredient
Discovery Point Retreat does require you to bring a few important documents with you. As you pack your clothes and toiletries, make sure to pack a form of identification as well. Examples include:
- State driver’s license
- Another government-issued identification card.
You will also need to bring your health insurance card and pharmacy card.
While you won’t need access to a lot of money while in rehab you may want to bring with you a small amount of cash. You can leave debit and credit cards behind as they won’t be necessary inside the treatment facility.
To keep you motivated at Discovery Point Retreat, you might also want to pack pictures of people or things in your life that you love the most. Printed pictures of family members, pets, and friends can all be displayed while you are in treatment.
What to leave behind
As an umbrella rule, while packing, any item that is alcohol or drug-related should not be brought into the facility. Any type of toiletry or medicine with alcohol listed as an ingredient should also be left behind. Toiletries and medications that are open or out of the original bottle should not be brought into the facility.
When coming to Discovery Point Retreat, please do not bring:
- Large amounts of makeup
- Expensive accessories
- Any type of weapon
A brighter future is waiting for you at Discovery Point Retreat. Making the decision to come to treatment is step one. Packing correctly for rehab is step two.
