When people come to us in the throes of active addiction and begin detox, they tend to be malnourished. The substances themselves tend to prevent the body’s absorption of nutrients, and the addiction often makes food an afterthought. In order to get your body back where it needs to be, Discovery Point Retreat’s on-site chef prepares three nutritious meals a day and provides healthy snacks as well. We also offer supplements to help your body adjust to the new influx of nutrients, especially after detox when your system may be sensitive.

Exercise and Fitness as Part of Substance Abuse Treatment

There’s no question that exercise is helpful to recovery, especially in the early stages when you may have extra energy to burn. In addition, exercise can help to reduce cravings, manage pain and improve your overall mood. We provide an on-site gym with both cardio and strength training equipment, so you can be active whenever you like. Discovery Point Retreat also offers weekly guided exercise programs with a professional trainer, as well as yoga classes. You’ll also find a basketball court, swimming pool and other amenities to make fitness in rehab fun and easy.

There are lots of ways to be active that don’t involve time in a gym or yoga studio. Our beautiful ranch-like facilities in Waxahachie and Ennis have nature trails, fishing ponds, gardens and plenty of outdoor space where you can unwind. Or enjoy interacting with horses in our popular equine therapy program.
