Does Insurance Cover Rehab?

More specifically, all insurance sold on Health Insurance Exchanges or provided by Medicaid to eligible adults from 2014 are required to cover services for substance use disorders.

How Does the Insurance Process Work?
If you’ve never obtained insurance for rehab before, it’s easy to be confused about the process and how it works.
What if Insurance Doesn’t Cover Rehab?
There are occasions when an insurance provider refuses to cover the cost of rehab. This does not mean all hope is lost— do not become discouraged!
Here are a couple of ways to pay for medical rehab centers worth exploring:
Payment Plans: Our facility offers payment plans because we understand each person’s financial situation is different. Contact us today so we can arrange a payment plan that works best for you.
Credit Cards: It is possible to pay for rehab using a credit card. Clients have two options which include a conventional credit card and a medical one. The difference between is medical credit cards are strictly for medical expenses while the latter is more flexible.
Keep in mind that with traditional credit cards, interest is not usually accrued during the promotional period as long as payments are made on time.
However, medical credit cards sometimes have relatively higher interest rates and deferred interest offers. The best thing to do would be to research both options and see which is most financially viable.
Loans: Rehab can be financed through traditional or personal loans if using a credit card is not an option for financing treatments at medical rehab centers. In some instances, a loan may have lower interest rates than a credit card. An individual can use a private loan or home equity loan to cover rehab costs. For those who have a home, these types of loans use their property as collateral and can be beneficial as they tend to be low-risk and offer competitive interest rates.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP): If an individual has access to an employer assistance program at their place of work, they may get assistance paying for addiction treatment that way. Employee assistance programs are designed to help employees overcome personal issues that negatively impact work performance.
The thought of disclosing an addiction problem to an employer may seem frightening, but it could also be a saving grace. Thanks to the Family Medical and Leave Care Act, If a medical condition keeps an employee from working, they can obtain a leave of absence of up to 12 weeks.
This can be a significant relief as one does not have to worry about job security while attending treatment programs.
Scholarships and Grants: There are scholarships as well as grants that help individuals pay for rehab. Several foundations and organizations offer them to help people partially or fully cover rehabilitation costs. A few include the Sobriety Optimization League Scholarship Foundation and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Grants. One may also find search tools like Charity Watch and GuideStar helpful as they provide information that can help clients locate scholarships and grants.
We are committed to ensuring clients who are struggling with financial barriers to rehabilitation treatment are served with the same respect, kindness, and resourcefulness as clients who are not struggling to cover tuition costs.
