DRUG REHAB CENTERS FOR GRAND PRAIRIE RESIDENTS

The first step to recovery is admittedly not an easy one: admitting that you have a problem and that you need help beyond yourself. Recovery requires not one sole approach, but instead a combination of lifestyle changes, mental health counseling, a positive mindset, and guidance from our experts at Discovery Point Retreat.

Benefits of treatment extend beyond going to a place where you can detox. In addition, you can break the cycle of addiction by removing yourself from your everyday routine, learn to recognize triggers for addiction and abuse, learn how to make lifestyle changes that can help you continue in your sobriety, establish personal boundaries with friends and family, and learn ways to relieve stress and have fun without using drugs or alcohol.

Treatment for drug and alcohol addiction starts with the detoxification process. This is where you will stop using drugs or alcohol and go through the symptoms that you may experience due to withdrawals. Our staff can work with you to develop a program that can help you meet your unique needs.

Examples of our treatment approaches include the following:

  • Residential: Residential treatment programs involve staying on-site at our center so you can receive around-the-clock care and support. Often, you may begin in an residential program and transition to an outpatient option where you can participate in therapies, yet remain at home in the evenings.
  • Partial hospitalization: This is a treatment approach that involves coming to our center from the morning to evening, much like a full-time job. However, you do return to your home in the evening.
  • Intensive outpatient: Intensive outpatient therapy involves coming to our center on a daily basis for several hours. While this option does involve fewer hours than a partial hospitalization program, the time commitment is such that you cannot work while you are participating in the program.
  • Outpatient: Outpatient treatments may be up to three times a week or as needed. This service depends upon your therapy and program needs. We can be flexible with your time and schedule.

By offering several different treatment programs that can help you achieve your treatment goals, our staff can work with you to determine what program may benefit you the most. If for any reason, this program does not work effectively for you, you can opt for a different one.

ALCOHOL REHAB CENTERS FOR GRAND PRAIRIE RESIDENTS

While alcohol is a legal and often socially acceptable substance to drink in front of others, the problems it can cause in a person’s life are seemingly endless. An addiction to alcohol can cause serious problems with your relationships, career, finances, health, and legal standing. Although some people believe in the term “functional alcoholic” where they are able to maintain their personal or professional lives, there is unfortunately the great likelihood that alcohol addiction will escalate — and it almost always does.

Alcohol rehabilitation helps you end your drinking so you can start to live a life that’s fully your own. If you tried to stop before on your own and relapsed, Discovery Point Retreat can help by addressing not only your physical addiction to alcohol but also the mental one. Alcohol rehabilitation is similar to drug rehabilitation in that it begins with the detoxification process, continues with therapy and an emphasis on wellness and ends with addiction aftercare therapy or groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous.

If you have symptoms of an alcohol use disorder, such as always drinking more than you intend to, experiencing withdrawal symptoms (such as tremors) when you wake up, and haven’t been able to quit on your own, it may be time to get help through Discovery Point Retreat.

Our facility near Grand Prairie works to provide as comforting an environment as possible. In addition to our caring staff, we offer activities that include a game room, which includes Xbox, art therapy, an on-site gym, and spa day-type activities. When seasonally appropriate, there are also many outdoor activities, such as fishing, nature trails, and an outdoor fire pit. Our goal is to create a relaxing environment where you can relieve stress while focusing on yourself and taking the steps it takes to achieve sobriety and remain sober.

ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTERS NEAR ME

Discovery Point Retreat is an easy commute from Grand Prairie. We trust that you, like many who have come to our program, will find great comfort in knowing that you are recovering close to home.

Some of the benefits of going to treatment near home include that your family can be involved in some therapies. Discovery Point Retreat offers family therapy workshops. In these workshops, your family can begin the personal healing process that can come after seeing a family member struggle for some time. Families also enjoy the workshops because they want to support you, but aren’t yet sure how. The workshops or family therapy in general can give them an idea of how to best communicate with you and help you after you have concluded your treatment program.

Another benefit of choosing recovery close to home is that you can build a strong network of support close to your Grand Prairie home. At our comprehensive treatment facility, you will meet people just like you who are committing themselves to a new pathway in life. Making those connections on your recovery journey can provide another person to call or an additional source of encouragement for you as you continue to navigate your sobriety journey. The people you meet today may be the ones you see at an Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meeting in the future. They (and you) can also set an example for others as to how rehabilitation programs can make the difference when it comes to substance abuse.

Living so close to our treatment center also makes participation in outpatient treatment possible. Through outpatient therapy, you can identify challenges and opportunities that may arise while you are at home. You can make critical lifestyle changes while you are still in therapy so that once you have completed your rehabilitation journey, everything is in place for your success.

HOW DOES DRUG DETOX WORK?

Drug detox is the first step to substance abuse treatment, and it’s a highly important one. It’s the time when you stop using drugs for good. This allows your brain and body to start returning to normal. Discovery Point Retreat’s clinically supervised detoxification program begins with either stopping a substance entirely or tapering it in smaller doses (which is what we recommend for benzodiazepine abuse) until your body is free of a particular substance.

Continued substance abuse creates changes in the brain. Using drugs, such as painkillers, heroin, cocaine, or methamphetamines, floods the brain with feel-good chemicals. Your brain loves the feeling these additional chemicals, such as dopamine and serotonin, create. When the substance leaves your body, your brain signals “more, more.” This creates the kind of use and abuse cycle that leads to addiction.

Detox is the process where you start to break the brain connection with drugs. Our process starts with an intake assessment where we ask you questions about your current physical and mental health. Honesty is vital during this time. Our staff uses these assessments to identify your immediate treatment needs.

Detox will almost always lead to withdrawal symptoms. Because your brain and body are so dependent upon the substances or substances you use, they will react when you stop using them. Our Discovery Point staff knows the expected symptoms for each substance abused. For example, those who struggle with opioid abuse may experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, muscle pain, and chills. If you abuse stimulants (such as cocaine or methamphetamines), you may experience agitation and depression, among other symptoms.

The FDA has approved several medications to reduce the severity of detox symptoms for addictions to opioids and heroin. Medication-assisted treatments are especially helpful to a full detox from pain pills. This is not switching one addiction for the other. The medications you take don’t create the same euphoria as pain pills. By reducing cravings and the physical withdrawal symptoms, you can focus on recovery.

As briefly mentioned earlier, detox from benzodiazepines, such as Klonopin, Valium, and Xanax, can produce an increased risk for symptoms, such as seizures. Because these symptoms can be dangerous and potentially life-threatening in some people, detox involves tapering doses of these medications. This means our staff can work with you to create a plan for how you will take less and less of the benzodiazepine each day until you are completely free of the drug.

During detox, our mental health professionals will work with you to continually evaluate your treatment plan. If something isn’t working, we’ll offer you the options that may help. What’s most important is that you will get through this and that you know we are here for you.

Our staff strives to make detox at Discovery Point Retreat as welcoming as possible. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities during this time. Once you complete the detox process, you’ll be ready to continue on your journey, which includes learning to break the mental addiction to drugs, find new ways to relieve stress, and learn to resist cravings.

HOW DOES ALCOHOL DETOX WORK?

Alcohol detoxification is a similar process to the drug detoxification one, but coupled with the knowledge that alcohol detoxification can have serious withdrawal symptoms that can turn dangerous. Alcohol withdrawal symptoms can range from mild to severe. Examples of some of the symptoms you could experience include headache, problems sleeping, anxiety, nausea, and muscle tremors. Because alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, these symptoms are an example of your body reacting because the substance that slows down their functions is no longer present.

In some cases, you could experience a severe withdrawal syndrome known as the delirium tremens or DTs. This is a potentially dangerous syndrome that requires medical supervision. Symptoms include dangerous fluctuations in heart rate and blood pressure, seizures, and severe hallucinations. There are medications that can help reduce the risks and effects of these medications, but it is vital to be in a professional medical detoxification center. This way, we can intervene if your symptoms begin to look at those you may experience the DTs.

Much like drug detoxification, the real treatment begins when you have completed the alcohol detoxification process. Discovery Point Retreat will help ensure your treatment success through using therapy approaches that include cognitive-behavioral techniques. These are approaches that involve helping you identify how your thoughts can lead to behaviors that either help you in your sobriety or that could lead to a path of relapse.

In addition to therapy, Discovery Point Retreat offers access to educational, legal, medical, financial, or housing assistance. By addressing each of these aspects that you may need for  a successful recovery, you can complete your treatment program knowing that you have the mental tools and physical strength to remain sober.

For more information about our alcohol detox programs and how we can help you if you’re struggling with alcohol addiction, please call Discovery Point Retreat at 855-306-8054. We can talk with you about your specific history of alcohol abuse and some of the programs we recommend that will help you succeed.

HOW LONG IS REHAB?

The answer to how long rehab lasts is a very individual one. When discussing our treatment programs with you and how long you may expect to participate in rehabilitation, our staff will consider factors such as the following:

  • How long you’ve struggled with addiction: If you have struggled with addiction for years or decades, your addiction is not something you can beat in just a few days. The same is true if you have gotten sober in the past and relapsed. Treatment programs may be longer in these instances because it’s vital that you take the time you need to experience success.
  • Presence of co-occurring disorders: If you struggle with a mental health disorder, such as anxiety or depression or a severe mental health disorder such as borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder, treatment may take slightly longer because we will work to address both conditions simultaneously. By treating you as the whole person that you are, we can help ensure you have the medications and mental health support you need to succeed.
  • How fully you engage with your treatment program: Motivation is an important aspect of your recovery. We know that not all people will enter our facility fully motivated to engage in treatment. Our staff can help you identify your personal motivations to stay well, but it takes time and effort. Until you are fully engaged in your treatment, you cannot experience your results to the fullest extent.

As a general rule, you can expect treatment to last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. You and our staff can determine how long you will need. We will continually reassess your treatment plan with you to ensure you are on the same track for your program completion so you continually have an idea of what to expect in terms of treatment duration.

It bears repeating that the more engaged you are in your treatment program, the better comprehensive rehabilitation will work. This takes many key skills, including being honest with yourself and others around you about your struggles and keeping an open mind. Once you learn how a sober person thinks, you can start to put the skills you learned into practice. With enough practice, you will be ready to face the “real world” with the mental tools to succeed.
